Anyone in early recovery would relate to the challenge of maintaining sobriety or remaining clean while traveling alone and scheduling quality time off. Recovery can be especially daunting for the ambitious, high achievers who can excel in their fields but fall prey to the consuming power of addiction. Affliction of addiction is seriously wicked, merciless and should be treated as such. Simply putting, one cannot be "ever vigilant" enough against it. Personally, I have yet to meet an alcoholic or addict who is smart enough , educated enough, tough enough or rich enough to mess with it.
Above lesson(s) have come to me at a great personal pain and cost. For the first three years in recovery, I shunned air travel and vacations unless I was under the constant careful eye of a no nonsense strict sober monitor. Looking back, I can say with certainty that every penny I spent on my protection was more than worth it as the music of the tinkering in-flight beverage trolley or the beckoning “seductive” comfort of a warmly lit lounge at an airport terminal would have been virtually impossible for me to resist. It would have spelled the end of my new found sobriety, nipping my recovery in the bud.
As a "giveback" or "pass on" gesture, besides having dedicated subsidized gender specific sober homes in the US, sober vacation spots in Spain & England, I do offer my services as a sober travel monitor at nominal charges whenever I can. For I have witnessed many a bright future and exploding potential ruthlessly cut short by an innocent looking white powder or dissolved in a wasted bottle.

To Relate To The Consuming Power Of Addiction, One Has To Be In Recovery, Having Suffered At Its Hands. It Cannot Be Verbalized Nor Academically Described & Taught At Any School. Addiction Is A Feeling. An Insatiable Craving, With A Sinister Grip On One's Mind, Body And Soul. It Is An All Powerful, Soulless Master Without A Conscience That Demands Unrelenting Obedience And Strips Its Victims Of Any Vestige Of Ambition, Motivation & Values. It Steals A Person’s Self Esteem Leaving One Empty & Worthless, A Pauper In True Sense.
